Intel Appoints Former Qualcomm Executive to Lead Physical AI Push

Intel has appointed former Qualcomm executive Alex Katouzian to head its newly created Client Computing & Physical AI Group, signaling the company’s stronger push into AI-powered devices, robotics, and autonomous systems.

Katouzian, who spent decades at Qualcomm working on mobile, computing, and AI hardware technologies, will now help Intel expand beyond traditional PC processors and strengthen its position in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence market.

The new division aims to connect Intel’s PC business with emerging “physical AI” technologies, including robotics, smart machines, and edge devices capable of processing AI tasks directly on-device rather than relying solely on cloud data centers.

Intel’s leadership restructuring comes as competition intensifies in the semiconductor industry, where rivals such as AMD and NVIDIA continue to accelerate AI-focused innovation.

The company also confirmed Pushkar Ranade as chief technology officer, overseeing advanced research areas including quantum and neuromorphic computing. The move places more of Intel’s technology strategy directly under CEO leadership as the company works to streamline operations and improve execution.

Industry analysts say the appointment reflects Intel’s effort to unify its AI strategy across PCs, data centers, foundry services, and future autonomous technologies. While the immediate financial impact remains uncertain, investors are expected to closely watch whether the new leadership structure can simplify decision-making and deliver clearer product roadmaps.

Intel shares rose following the announcement, alongside gains in Qualcomm stock, as the broader tech sector continues to focus heavily on AI-driven growth opportunities.
