Google Reportedly Testing “Remy,” a 24/7 AI Personal Agent for Gemini
Google is reportedly developing a new AI-powered personal agent called “Remy” for Gemini, according to a report from Business Insider. The tool is currently being tested internally through an employee-only version of the Gemini app and is designed to transform Gemini into a more autonomous assistant capable of taking actions on behalf of users in both work and everyday tasks.
According to the report, Remy is described internally as a “24/7 personal agent” that can monitor tasks, learn user preferences, and integrate deeply across Google services. Employees familiar with the project said the system is intended to move beyond traditional chatbot interactions by actively handling complex workflows and assisting users proactively.
The development appears to be part of Google’s broader push to expand Gemini’s capabilities into agentic AI. Existing Gemini connected-app features already allow interaction with services such as Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Keep, Tasks, WhatsApp, Spotify, YouTube Music, Google Home, Android utilities, and other third-party platforms.
However, Remy is reportedly designed to go further by acting more independently and adapting to individual user behavior over time.
Questions Around Control and Autonomy
While the project signals Google’s ambitions in AI assistants, several questions remain unanswered. The report did not reveal whether Remy can perform actions autonomously without user approval, how its activities are logged, or what level of autonomy is currently being tested internally.
Google has also not disclosed technical details about Remy’s architecture, the Gemini model powering it, or whether the tool will eventually become a public feature.
The company’s current AI governance guidelines emphasize human oversight, limited permissions, transparency, and auditability for AI agents. Google’s Gemini Privacy Hub also allows users to manage memory settings, connected-app permissions, and personalization controls tied to Gemini interactions.
Expanding Gemini Beyond Chatbots
Google’s existing documentation already outlines Gemini’s ability to perform actions such as retrieving information from Workspace apps, creating calendar events, sending messages, opening applications, and controlling smart-home devices.
The addition of Remy suggests Google may be pushing Gemini toward becoming a full AI assistant capable of coordinating tasks across multiple services while learning from user habits and priorities.
Similarities to Other Autonomous AI Agents
The report compared Remy to projects like OpenClaw, an autonomous AI agent that gained attention earlier this year for independently replying to messages, conducting research, and carrying out actions on behalf of users.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously confirmed that OpenAI hired OpenClaw’s creator, reflecting the growing industry focus on highly autonomous AI agents.
Meanwhile, Demis Hassabis has previously spoken about Google’s long-term vision of building advanced digital assistants, though Google has not officially confirmed whether Remy will eventually launch publicly as part of Gemini.
