Department of Science and Technology Eyes Southeast Asian Participation for 2nd AI Fest in Iloilo

The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office 6 is targeting participants from across Southeast Asia for the 2nd Artificial Intelligence (AI) Fest set to take place from Aug. 3 to 5 in Iloilo City.

“We have invited participants not only from outside of Western Visayas, but also outside of the country, particularly from Southeast Asian countries,” said Rowen Gelonga.

The expanded regional participation comes as the Philippines serves as this year’s chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Carrying the theme “Building an AI-Ready Future, Together,” the three-day event aims to promote the practical, ethical, and collaborative use of artificial intelligence across multiple sectors.

The AI Fest was first conceptualized following the launch of the 2025–2030 AI Development Action Plan for Western Visayas last year.

According to Keithlyn Sarah Bernardino, this year’s festival will significantly expand from four activities in 2025 to nine major events in 2026.

The lineup includes the AI Technical Conference, AI Hackathon, AI Expo, Sine AI, AI Policy Lab, AI Speaks, AI Connect, AI in Motion, and AI Game On!

Partner organizations for this year’s event include the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, UMWAD Western Visayas Consortium, Iloilo Science and Technology University, West Visayas State University, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Iloilo Business Club.

Ira Pahila emphasized that the AI Fest is not solely focused on technology, but also aims to bridge the digital divide, particularly among marginalized communities.

Meanwhile, Ken Lerona said the business sector remains united in supporting innovation, competitiveness, and responsible AI adoption in the country.

Officials hope the event will further position Iloilo City and Western Visayas as emerging centers for AI innovation and digital collaboration in Southeast Asia.
