OPPO and MediaTek Introduce Next-Generation On-Device AI at MWC 2026

At MWC 2026, OPPO and MediaTek demonstrated their latest developments in on-device artificial intelligence, showcasing how AI is becoming more powerful directly on smartphones. The technologies were presented during MediaTek’s “AI for Life” keynote, where the companies discussed their collaboration in bringing advanced AI capabilities to mobile devices.

During the presentation, Jason Liao, President of the OPPO Research Institute, emphasized that the strong partnership between OPPO and MediaTek is helping accelerate the deployment of AI features in smartphones. Their collaboration focuses on transforming AI from a cloud-dependent technology into something that can operate efficiently directly on the device.

OPPO’s AI Vision

OPPO’s AI strategy is built around three key principles: New Computing, New Perception, and New Ecosystem. A central part of this vision is on-device computing, which allows AI features to run locally on smartphones. This approach provides several advantages, including lower latency, improved privacy, and more personalized user experiences.

By working closely with MediaTek, OPPO aims to make these AI capabilities more scalable and accessible for future devices.

From Chipset to User Experience

The new AI features are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, enabling OPPO to deliver advanced AI tools such as AI Translate and AI Portrait Glow directly on the device. These features are expected to be introduced on the OPPO Find X9 series through the ColorOS 16 update.

AI Translate processes language directly on the smartphone, providing an average 15% improvement in translation accuracy compared to traditional approaches. Because the feature works on-device, it can also function without an internet connection, ensuring more reliable performance.

Meanwhile, AI Portrait Glow improves portrait photography in difficult lighting conditions. By analyzing and reconstructing scene lighting through AI processing, the feature enhances portrait images while maintaining natural details.

Introducing Omni: A Multi-Modal AI Model

Another highlight from the event was the preview of Omni, an advanced on-device multi-modal AI model. Omni allows smartphones to understand and interact with different types of input, including voice, text, and video.

With this technology, users can ask questions about what their phone camera sees or interact with content in real time, enabling a more intelligent and interactive mobile experience.

Expanding the AI Ecosystem

The partnership between OPPO and MediaTek was also showcased at MediaTek’s exhibition booth, where visitors experienced the Find X9 Pro’s on-device AI features and its enhanced telephoto imaging system developed in collaboration with Hasselblad.

OPPO also presented the Reno15 Pro, which features several creative AI photography tools such as AI Motion Photo Eraser, AI Motion Photo Popout, and AI Flash Photography.

Another upcoming feature for the Find X9 series is Android Quick Share, developed through collaboration with MediaTek and Google. This feature will enable users to securely transfer files between OPPO smartphones and devices running iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The rollout is expected to begin through a software update starting in March.

The Find X9 Pro was also recognized at the GLOMO Awards during MWC 2026, where it was shortlisted for the Best Smartphone category.

Looking Ahead

OPPO and MediaTek plan to continue expanding their collaboration, particularly in on-device AI technologies. Their goal is to further enhance smartphone capabilities while delivering faster, more secure, and more intelligent user experiences.
