Rolando Estabillo: AI and Technology Are Inevitable in Journalism’s Future

AI IS INEVITABLE IN JOURNALISM FUTURE

Manila Standard publisher Rolando Estabillo believes that technological advancements, including artificial intelligence (AI), are inevitable in the evolving landscape of journalism.

In an interview with correspondent Rolando Ng III, Estabillo shared his insights on how the media industry must adapt to rapid digital transformation while staying true to its core principles.

According to Estabillo, technology has always shaped the way news is gathered, produced, and delivered. From print to digital platforms, and now to AI-driven tools, innovation continues to redefine newsroom operations and audience engagement.

However, he emphasized that journalists should not view these changes with fear.

Instead of resisting innovation, Estabillo encouraged media practitioners to embrace emerging technologies as tools that can enhance efficiency, expand reach, and improve storytelling. He underscored that while platforms and processes may change, the fundamental values of journalism accuracy, integrity, fairness, and accountability must remain constant.

“Technological advances are part of the future of journalism,” he said, adding that adaptation is essential for survival in a competitive and fast-changing media environment.

As Manila Standard marks another milestone year, Estabillo’s message highlights the publication’s commitment to innovation while upholding the standards that define responsible journalism.

With AI and other digital tools becoming increasingly integrated into newsroom workflows, Estabillo believes the key lies not in resisting change, but in using technology wisely ensuring that progress strengthens, rather than undermines, the profession’s credibility and public trust.
