Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, IBM Lead Push to Protect Open-Weight AI
Major technology companies are urging US policymakers to preserve access to open-weight artificial intelligence models, warning that excessive restrictions could limit innovation, competition, and cybersecurity research.
More than 20 technology companies, investors, and nonprofit organizations have signed an open letter calling on the United States government to protect the continued development and release of open-weight AI models.
The coalition includes some of the biggest and most influential names in technology, including Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, IBM, Dell Technologies, CrowdStrike, Palantir, ServiceNow, Hugging Face, Perplexity, Mistral AI, Mozilla, the Linux Foundation, Andreessen Horowitz, and Y Combinator.
