Vietnam Strengthens AI Ambitions as FPT and Viettel Join NVIDIA’s Sovereign AI Initiative
Vietnam is taking a significant step toward advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities as two of the country’s leading technology companies, FPT and Viettel, partner with NVIDIA in its growing sovereign AI initiative.
The announcement was made during NVIDIA’s GTC Taipei at Computex conference, where the company highlighted Vietnam as one of a select group of countries receiving dedicated AI development resources. The initiative aims to help nations build AI systems tailored to their own languages, cultures, and regulatory environments.
A major development is the launch of the Nemotron-Personas-Vietnam dataset, created through a collaboration between NVIDIA and FPT. The dataset is part of NVIDIA’s broader Nemotron-Personas project, which uses population-scale synthetic data based on demographic and labor statistics to better represent local communities and economies. The dataset is expected to support the development of AI applications that better understand Vietnamese language and social contexts.
FPT is also serving as an NVIDIA Cloud Partner, providing accelerated computing infrastructure and AI tools to support sovereign AI projects across Vietnam and the wider Asian region.
Meanwhile, Viettel AI is leveraging NVIDIA’s open-model ecosystem by fine-tuning the Nemotron 3 Super model for a large-scale legal AI application. The project aims to develop AI systems capable of understanding Vietnam’s legal framework, potentially expanding Viettel’s role as both a telecommunications and AI service provider.
NVIDIA emphasized that sovereign AI is becoming increasingly important as countries seek AI systems that align with their own laws, languages, and national priorities rather than relying solely on global, one-size-fits-all models. Building such systems requires advanced cloud infrastructure and high-performance computing resources.
Vietnam joins several other Asian countries participating in NVIDIA’s sovereign AI strategy. Across the region, organizations are developing AI models for various sectors, including government services, finance, manufacturing, and enterprise operations. These projects include multilingual voice assistants in India, speech intelligence systems in Indonesia, enterprise AI solutions in South Korea, and specialized industrial AI models in Japan.
The partnership with FPT and Viettel positions Vietnam as an emerging player in the global AI landscape, demonstrating the country’s commitment to developing homegrown AI technologies that address local needs while supporting broader digital transformation efforts.
