Anthropic Expands Claude AI for Lawyers With Legal Research Integrations
Anthropic has launched a major expansion of its Claude AI assistant for the legal industry, introducing new tools designed specifically for lawyers and law firms as competition in professional AI services continues to intensify.
The company announced that Claude can now integrate directly with major legal research, document management, and workflow platforms, allowing legal professionals to access specialized resources without leaving the AI assistant. Anthropic said the new features are immediately available to existing Claude customers.
One of the biggest additions is a partnership with Thomson Reuters, enabling Claude users to access legal materials from Westlaw and Practical Law directly within the platform. This includes court records, legal databases, and practice guides commonly used by law firms and legal teams.
Thomson Reuters also announced that its AI-powered legal platform CoCounsel is now connected with Claude. The integration allows users to utilize CoCounsel’s legal research and workflow tools directly through Anthropic’s assistant while maintaining access to enterprise-grade legal resources.
Anthropic is also integrating Claude with AI legal startup Harvey, bringing Harvey’s legal assistant capabilities into the platform for broader legal inquiries and support tasks.
Additional integrations include document management company Box, e-discovery platform Everlaw, and software provider DocuSign, giving legal professionals broader access to case files, contracts, and workflow automation tools inside the Claude environment.
According to Anthropic associate general counsel Mark Pike, adoption of AI in the legal industry has accelerated rapidly. He said a recent webinar discussing how legal teams use Claude attracted more than 20,000 registrations, reflecting growing demand for AI-powered legal assistance.
The release also introduces 12 specialized legal AI plug-ins tailored for different roles and practice areas. These include tools focused on commercial law, employment law, litigation support, and even law student assistance. Anthropic said the plug-ins can operate directly within Claude Cowork or be embedded into a law firm’s internal systems.
The expansion highlights the increasing race among AI companies to secure a foothold in industries heavily dependent on research, documentation, and professional analysis, with the legal sector emerging as one of the fastest-growing markets for enterprise AI adoption.
