Singapore PM to Deliver 2026 Budget, Focus on Jobs, Cost of Living and AI Strategy

Singapore PM Lawrence Wong to unveil Budget 2026, with focus on jobs, rising costs, and AI-driven economic strategy.

SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is set to deliver Singapore’s Budget 2026 on Thursday, February 12, at 3:30 p.m., outlining the government’s fiscal plans amid growing concerns over employment and rising living costs.

The upcoming Budget is expected to address key issues weighing on Singaporeans, particularly job security and inflationary pressures. Observers anticipate that PM Wong will lay out measures aimed at strengthening workforce resilience and supporting households navigating economic uncertainty.

Beyond immediate domestic concerns, Wong is also likely to reaffirm Singapore’s ambition to position itself as a regional artificial intelligence (AI) hub. Analysts expect updates on the country’s Economic Strategy Review, which seeks to sustain long-term competitiveness through innovation, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.

However, economists believe this year’s Budget may include adjustments to previously generous support schemes. In particular, the Community Development Council (CDC) voucher program — a hallmark of recent Budgets aimed at easing household expenses — could see a scaling back as the government recalibrates fiscal priorities.

Philippine Officials Respond to Assault Video

Separately, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have confirmed they are aware of a video circulating online that shows a man allegedly assaulting a Filipina at Lucky Plaza, a popular gathering place for Filipino workers.

DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac said authorities are looking into the incident and are preparing to take the necessary legal actions.

Philippine officials have yet to release further details but assured the public that the welfare and protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) remain a priority.
