DepEd Sets Aside P100 Million for National AI Center

P100M AI Center to Boost Digital Skills of Filipino Learners

The Department of Education (DepEd) has allocated P100 million to establish a dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) center aimed at equipping Filipino students with skills in emerging technologies.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara announced the initiative during a Palace briefing, highlighting the agency’s commitment to strengthening digital education and preparing learners for a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

According to Angara, DepEd has partnered with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to help review and finalize the curriculum for the AI center. The facility is expected to be completed by the first quarter or early second quarter of 2026.

“We put up an AI center, and with MIT, we are finalizing the AI curriculum of the Philippines,” Angara said.

He noted that MIT offered its expertise in reviewing the curriculum at no cost, underscoring the collaborative effort to ensure that Filipino students receive globally competitive and future-ready training.

The establishment of the AI center forms part of DepEd’s broader initiative to modernize the national curriculum. In July 2025, the department announced plans to integrate AI education into learning programs to better prepare both students and educators for the demands of the digital age.

Through the new center, DepEd aims to build foundational knowledge in AI, promote responsible technology use, and enhance the country’s capacity to participate in the global innovation economy.
